Testimonials

This class went from "this is what you are being taught, now memorize it" to "this is what you know, now apply it." Never was I asked to do this before.

Why Should Faculty Get Involved?

With TTP you can achieve measurable results in the classroom. The Teaching Teams program has had enormous success with students and instructors alike. Over the last 10 years, more than 25% of Provost Awards have gone to instructors who have actively used the Teaching Teams program in their classrooms. It is also looks great on your P and T file!

Why the word "Preceptor"?

The word "Preceptor" originated in Middle English, from Latin praeceptor, from praecipere, to teach. -The American Heritage® Dictionary

Students, whether concurrently enrolled in your course or not, make excellent peer facilitators of learning. Students do not need to be content experts to be Preceptors. You, as the instructor, are the “sage on the stage” while Preceptors act as “guides on the side.” The “teaching” that Preceptors do is predominantly by example and by offering peer support to their fellow students to seek out the resources they need to excel in your course. This often takes the form of organizing study groups, leading exam review sessions, giving feedback to the instructor about where students are struggling and what sections of the course need more explanation. Additionally, Preceptors are trained in teaching their peers how to learn more efficiently and effectively and by transferring these “learning how to learn” skills, Preceptors fulfill their historical mandate to “teach.”
